A basement fire injured one person and left a Naperville home uninhabitable Sunday in the west suburb.

Crews responded about 9:46 a.m. to the 800 block of North Main Street, the Naperville fire department said.

Authorities saw heavy smoke throughout the home and found the blaze in the basement, the fire department said. The fire was extinguished about 20 minutes later.

Two people had evacuated the home before crews arrived, and a third was still inside, fire officials said. The person who was found on the first floor of the home was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Several pets were also rescued, but one is still unaccounted for.

The home was deemed uninhabitable, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
