A body found in a car Thursday in the Calumet River has been identified as a 50-year-old Brainerd man reported missing days earlier.

Darris Johnson, 50, was found dead in the 100 block of East 130th Street, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled accidental.

A dive team pulled his car from the water about 3 p.m. and found him dead inside, Chicago police said.

On Sunday, a witness told authorities about 2 a.m. a white vehicle westbound on 130th Street drove into the river, police said. Crews searched the river but were unable to find the car or any occupants at the time.

In his missing person report, Johnson was last seen on Saturday, July 11.
