Gingrich rips Obama and 'pathetic presidency'

During a speech sponsored by the Young America’s Foundation, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich ripped President Barack Obama, saying he has a “pathetic presidency” and will take actions to provoke Republicans to impeach him in an effort to help Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections.

“There is a rumor that the president, around Labor Day, may use executive action to legalize five million people who are here outside the law,” Gingrich said, according to The Daily Caller. “And I think if they do it, it will be trying to provoke the Republicans to institute impeachment.”

Tuesday morning, House Speaker John Boehner ruled out any chances of trying to impeach Obama, and Gingrich agreed, saying Republicans wouldn’t be able to pull it off.

“It’s the Democrats who want to talk about it because they raise money off of it,” Gingrich said.

And they are raising a bunch of it. On Monday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised $1 million from donors.

Gingrich said using talk of impeachment to raise money is a “pretty desperate” move from a “pretty pathetic presidency.”

“Nothing is working. And so they are looking for some fight that allows them to re-polarize the country in terms that help them in the election,” Gingrich said. “I think we ought to laugh at them and say ‘if the best you can do after six years of the presidency is to yell impeachment and hope that you can raise money, it is a pretty pathetic presidency.’ And by the way, it is a pretty pathetic presidency.”
