Mitch McConnell: Dems have 'bizarre obsession' with Kochs

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called the Democrats’ preoccupation with the billionaire Koch brothers a ”bizarre obsession” intended to blow “kisses to their powerful pals on the left.”

“Instead of focusing on jobs, [Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid] launched into another confusing attack on the left’s latest bizarre obsession,” McConnell said on the Senate floor. “Just think about that. The percentage of Americans in the workforce is at an almost four-decade low, and Democrats chose to ignore serious job-creation ideas so they could blow a few kisses to their powerful pals on the left.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in an earlier speech had gone after the Republican Party benefactors, Harry and David Koch. Reid had also voiced support for the gender pay equity legislation on the Senate’s plate.

McConnell’s office says the senator was directing his response at Reid’s Koch remarks, not the gender pay issue.

EDITOR’S NOTE, April 9: An earlier version of this post stated that Sen. McConnell was referring to the gender pay inequity Sen. Reid had been talking about on the Senate floor. McConnell’s office maintains his statements were in reference to attacks on the Koch brothers, whom Reid also discussed in his time on the floor.
