The White Sox put third baseman Conor Gillaspie on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised left hand and added reliever Hector Noesi to the 25-man roster Saturday.
Gillaspie’s DL stint is retroactive to April 22. In 16 games, Gillaspie is hitting .302 with 12 RBI, but he hasn’t played since April 21 against the Detroit Tigers.
Noesi, 27, was claimed off waivers Friday from the Texas Rangers. The right-handed reliever started the season with the Seattle Mariners before being traded to the Rangers on April 12.
He has a 14.21 ERA in five appearances. The Sox hope they can get more from him to help a beleaguered bullpen.
“He’s a guy who obviously was available because he has struggled mightily as we saw first-hand last weekend,” general manager Rick Hahn said Friday, “but he’s a guy we’ve liked for some time who has some upside, and there are two specific things that we think we can improve that he’s been doing that has hampered his success. So we’ll see if we’re effective in being able to make those adjustments in the near future, and if not, adjust accordingly.”
The Sox also announced that right-hander Scott Carroll is expected to make his major-league debut Sunday. Carroll, 29, is 3-1 with a 1.57 ERA in four starts for Class AAA Charlotte.
Carroll is not on the Sox’s 40-man roster, so another move will need to be made.
In a separate move, right-hander Erik Johnson was sent to Charlotte.
