Toddler found alone on South Side without coat, hat, shoes

As the temperature hovered just above zero, a toddler was found alone, with no coat, shoes or hat early Friday on the South Side.

The boy, whose name was not known, was found about 1:45 a.m. at the intersection of East 82nd Street and South Avalon Avenue, police said. He is thought to be 3 or 4 years old and is in good condition.

He is described as black, standing about 3-feet and weighing about 40 pounds, police said. He was found wearing a gray sweater, blue jeans and argyle socks.

The temperature was 3 degrees when the boy was found, according to the National Weather Service.
