There was some anxiety among Bulls players with the NBA trade deadline coming and going Thursday, but like coach Tom Thibodeau predicted, his roster remained intact by the time afternoon practice ended.
“We try not to worry about it because you’ve got to stay focused,’’ guard D.J. Augustin said.
“But in the back of your mind, it’s tough, especially when you have a family. You might have to just up and leave and move to another city and a new team. So it’s always tough around this time.’’
While the Bulls were quiet, the Eastern Conference wasn’t, specifically the division rival Cleveland Cavaliers, who not only kept Luol Deng but added Spencer Hawes from the Philadelphia 76ers in hopes of getting into the playoffs.
“Like I’ve said, Lu was terrific for us,’’ Thibodeau said of the Cavs trying to make a run.
“He’s somewhere else. We wish him well. We appreciate everything that he did for us. I consider him to be a friend. But I can’t worry about what they’re doing. I have enough to worry about here. That’s what I stay focused on.’’
As for the current team staying together, Thibodeau couldn’t have been more thrilled.
“I love the guys we have,’’ Thibodeau said. “I think we have more than enough. So just stay focused on what we have to do. Don’t get sidetracked.’’
