A convicted felon wanted for allegedly breaking into a Roseland apartment and raping a woman at gunpoint in front of her teenage son last year has been arrested and charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault.
Jordan Whitaker’s DNA was matched to the May 24 attack in August, prosecutors said Saturday.
Whitaker, 20, of the 7900 block of South Avalon, was arrested Thursday in Lansing on unrelated charges.
Cook County Judge Laura Sullivan ordered him held Saturday in lieu of $300,000 bail.
According to prosecutors and police, Whitaker repeatedly knocked on the door of the apartment in the 10400 block of South Maryland. before 6 in the morning and forced his way in, helding a semi-automatic gun on the 32-year-old woman.
They said he dragged her to a bathroom and raped her, then took off.
The victim’s son and a witness who saw the attacker run away said they knew Whitaker from the neighborhood, prosecutors said.
Whitaker served two years in prison for a 2012 conviction for possessing a firearm at a school.
