A brazen pedophile broke into a Calumet Park home, raped a 4-year-old girl while others were inside and then went into a closet at the residence and started smoking a cigarette, Cook County prosecutors said.
Demetrio Campbell was trying to get the victim and her older sister to come across the street to him when they were playing outside Sunday, State’s Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.
But the girls ignored the 27-year-old man’s alleged request and ran inside the house, locking the doors.
Campbell, of Blue Island, then walked to the house and started knocking on the door, telling everyone inside to let him in, Simonton said.
Witnesses saw Campbell go across the street before he went back down to the house and kicked the door in, prosecutors said.
Once inside, Campbell ordered one of the two older people in the house to leave the bedroom, prosecutors said.
He then took the 4-year-old girl inside the bedroom and allegedly raped her on the bed.
The witness who was ordered to leave the room called police.
When police arrived, they found Campbell smoking a cigarette in a closet, Simonton said.
Judge Edward Bowden ordered Campbell held without bond Wednesday at the Markham courthouse, according to court records.
Bowden also ordered Campbell to undergo psychiatric evaluation.
Campbell has two previous felony convictions for burglary and aggravated robbery.
