Two young boys shot — along with their grandmother — while walking in the South Shore neighborhood were making good progress Wednesday afternoon, family members said.

“For the most part, OK,” said Romance Atwood, the children’s aunt.

Atwood was less certain about the prognosis for her mother, the boy’s grandmother.

“We’re not sure,” Atwood said.

The grandmother, identified by family members as Eileen Atwood, was in critical condition Wednesday morning, police said.

All three victims were shot Tuesday night while walking in South Shore, police said.

Police patrolling a block away heard the shooting about 8 p.m. and found the scene at 78th and Kingston.

The 5-year-old boy was shot in the stomach and taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in guarded condition, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.

An evidence technician carried the 3-year-old boy, who was shot in the shoulder, to an unmarked police car and took him to La Rabida Children’s Hospital. The boy was transferred to Comer in good condition, Langford said.

Their 51-year-old grandmother was shot in the upper leg and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.
