Now it appears Tom Thibodeau will have at least eight players in his rotation.
As expected, the Bulls made free agent guard/forward Ronnie Brewer a permanent member of the roster on Monday, signing the defensive specialist for the remainder of the season.
The 6-foot-7 Brewer played with the Bulls for two seasons, including the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals, so is familiar with the system. Bigger picture, he gives Thibodeau a body he can trust, to go along with Taj Gibson and D.J. Augustin off the bench.
Brewer is currently in his eighth year in the NBA. After being drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 14th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, Brewer spent three-plus seasons in Utah.
He was with the Rockets this season, appeared in 23 games, and was released.
Brewer, 29, has played in 47 playoff games, averaging 5.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 18.2 minutes per game.
