CUBS NINE TO KNOW

1 In the Cubs’ first 120 games, they homered in 73, the eighth-most in the majors. They are 40-33 in those games. Anthony Rizzo has homered in 24 games, the most on the team and the fifth-most in the majors. The Cubs are 14-10 in games in which Rizzo homers.

2 The Cubs are hitting .222 with runners in scoring position, 14th in the National League, but Starlin Castro is hitting .294.

3 In Javy Baez’s first 10 games, he drew no walks and saw two 3-1 pitches and 10 3-2 pitches.

4 Castro leads the Cubs with 37 multihit games. Rogers Hornsby holds the Cubs’ record with 73 in 1929. Since being called up in 2010, Castro leads the Cubs with 228 multihit games.

5Rizzo and Castro lead the Cubs with 16 multi-RBI games. Hack Wilson holds the Cubs’ record with 53 in 1930.

6 Edwin Jackson has made 56 starts for the Cubs. He hasn’t completed six innings in 30 of them.

7 Since July 1, Pedro Strop has a 2.00 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP in 18 appearances.

8 In his first 45 major-league at-bats, Baez had as many homers (four) as Alex Rios had in 427 at-bats and as many strikeouts (17) as Efren Navarro had in 97 at-bats.

9 From July 29, 2011, through Aug. 14, 2014, the Cubs played 500 games with a record of 208-292, a .416 winning percentage.

SOX NINE TO KNOW

1 In the Sox’ first 121 games, they homered in 75 of them, the fifth-most in the majors. They are 44-31 in those games. Jose Abreu has homered in 27 games, the most on the team and the third-most in the majors. The Sox are 18-9 in games in which Abreu homers.

2 Since 1914, Randy Johnson holds the record for most games with 12 or more strikeouts with 101. Chris Sale holds the Sox’ record with nine.

3 The Sox and Cubs each have played 24 road games in which they have allowed three runs or fewer. The Sox are 21-3 in such games; the Cubs are 16-8.

4 Alexei Ramirez leads the Sox with 40 multihit games. ‘‘Shoeless’’ Joe Jackson holds the Sox’ record with 69 in 1920. Since 2009, Ramirez leads the Sox with 262 multihit games.

5 Adam Eaton is the majors’ leading hitter since the All-Star break with a .434 average.

6 Abreu leads the Sox with 22 multi-RBI games. Magglio Ordonez holds the Sox’ record with 37 in 2002. Since 2009, Paul Konerko leads the Sox with 99 multi-RBI games.

7 Entering the weekend, Robin Ventura was 12-for-24 in challenges. The Yankees’ Joe Girardi is the most successful manager in baseball, winning 17 of 22 challenges (77 percent).

8 The Sox’ bullpen had a 4.33 ERA in April, a 3.44 ERA in May, a 3.86 ERA in June and a 3.65 ERA in July. In August, though, Sox relievers have an 11.66 ERA.

9 From Aug. 1, 2011, through Aug. 14, 2014, the Sox played 500 games with a 232-268 record, a .464 winning percentage.

The Week ahead

The Cubs finish their road series Monday against the Mets, then it’s back home to face the black-and-orange of the Giants and the orange-and-black of the Orioles. The Sox host the Orioles, then go to New York to play the Yankees.
