Charlie Weis is at Kansas. But he’s still benefiting financially from his time as Notre Dame’s football coach.

Weis received $2,054,744 in 2012, according to federal tax return documents provided by the school Wednesday. The filing period was from July 1, 2012-June 30, 2013.

The figure is part of his separation agreement. Notre Dame fired Weis following the 2009 season. Additional payments are scheduled through December of 2015. Weis went 35-27 in his five years at Notre Dame. He is entering his third year at Kanas.

Brian Kelly replaced Weis. He earned $1,457,284, according to the documents. The total doesn’t likely tell the whole story. Kelly can also receive “compensation from external sources with prior written approval from the University.” Kelly’s total in the 2011 documents was $1,088,179. The school announced Kelly signed a five-year contract extension last August. Terms of that deal were not released.

Former defensive coordinator Bob Diaco received $672,824 for the 2012 period. Diaco became the head coach at Connecticut in December.

Athletic director Jack Swarbrick made $1,143,052, according to the documents.
