Police have released two people questioned after a 38-year-old man was found fatally shot Sunday in Bridgeport on the Southwest Side.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert about 12:50 a.m. in the 3100 block of South Benson Street and found Brandon Jones unresponsive, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He had gunshot wounds to the head, torso, hand and back and was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

An autopsy conducted ruled Jones’ death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Investigators don’t have any witnesses, but two people seen speeding away from the scene in a vehicle were taken in for questioning, police said. They were later released without being charged.

The incident was Chicago’s first reported shooting since Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s “stay-at-home” order went into effect at 5 p.m. Saturday in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
