Two people of interest were taken in for questioning after a man was shot to death and another was hurt Tuesday in Gresham on the South Side.

Howard Griffith, 28, and a 19-year-old man were shot just before 1:30 p.m. in the 7700 block of South Throop Street, officials said.

Griffith, who lived in Gresham, was hit in the chest and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died at 2:06 p.m., the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy Wednesday ruled his death a homicide.

The younger man suffered a graze wound to his head and was taken to the same hospital in good condition, Chicago police said.

Area South detectives are investigating.
