A man was killed in a shooting Friday in Back of the Yards on the South Side, police said.

He was getting into a vehicle about 9 p.m. at a gas station in the 5100 block of South Halsted Street when a male ran out from a nearby store and opened fire, Chicago police said.

Nathaniel Watkins, 31, was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in Englewood.

No one is in custody as Area One detectives investigate.
