A person is in custody after a man was fatally shot Friday in Washington Park on the South Side, police said.

The 28-year-old was in a home about 4:22 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Michigan Avenue when a female he knew pulled out a gun and opened fire, Chicago police said.

The man was struck in the chest and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Farrish Michael.

An autopsy conducted Saturday confirmed he died from his gunshot wound, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police said the female was taken into custody and officers recovered a gun.

Area One detectives are investigating.
