A man was found shot to death Sunday in Austin on the West Side.

Officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert for gunfire at 3:54 a.m. found the 28-year-old man lying unresponsive on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of North Mayfield Avenue, Chicago police said.

Demil D. Spears had been shot in the back and face and was pronounced dead at the scene, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived in Lawndale.

No one is in custody as Area Five detectives investigate.
