He was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

A 61-year-old man was shot to death Sunday on a parkway in South Chicago.

Officers responding to ShotSpotter alerts for eight gunshots at 2:09 a.m. in the 8400 block of South Commercial Avenue found him with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Chicago police.

Sammy Clayton Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived in South Shore.

No one is in custody as Area Two detectives investigate.
