Andre De Shields to star in return of ‘Woz: A Rock Cabaret’

Jeff Award-winning actor Andre De Shields will be starring as the Wizard in “WOZ: A Rock Cabaret,” returning to Chicago for five performances, July 14-17 at the Victory Gardens Theater (2433 N. Lincoln).

Shields starred on Broadway in the original production of “The Wiz,” and is a veteran of Chicago’s stages including the Goodman Theatre, Victory Gardens and the Civic Opera House. “WOZ” is inspired by “The Wizard of Oz,” but the score features rock anthems of the 80s and 90s, according to the official release.

Created by Kimberly Lawson and Will Rogers, “WOZ” is directed by Scott Gryder with music direction by Nick Sula. The show features original cast members Kimberly Lawson (Dorothy), Heather Currie (Wicked Witch), Clara D’Onofrio (Glinda), Edward Fraim (Lion), David Lipschutz Lipschutz (Munchkin, Winkie Soldier), James Nedrud (Tin Man), Kevin Webb (Scarecrow) and Sarah Wurz (Munckin, Winkie Soldier).
