Not surprisingly, Demi Moore was devastated about the drowning death of a young man at her Los Angeles home over the weekend, but she may not even have been aware the party where he died even happened.

The actress issued a statement saying she’s “in absolute shock” and that her “heart goes out to” the family and friends of Edenilson Steven Valle, who apparently slipped and fell into the pool during a Saturday night party. Unfortunately, the 21-year-old man could not swim, and when he fell, there was no one nearby to rescue him. Valle’s body was discovered early Sunday.

Neither Moore, nor her three daughters, Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Willis — children from her marriage to former husband Bruce Willis — were at the house when the tragedy occurred.

A Moore employee apparently hosted a small party at the home, and it’s unclear whether the actress had given permission for the party to take place.

The Los Angeles police do not suspect any foul play and are treating the incident simply as a tragic accident.

In her statement, Moore said, “I am in absolute shock. I was out of the country traveling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news. The loss of a child is an unthinkable tragedy, and my heart goes out to this young man’s family and friends.”
