Elisabeth Moss is joining Robert Redford and Cate Blanchett in “Truth,” a film about the downfall of Dan Rather at CBS News.

“Mad Men” star Elisabeth Moss is joining the cast of the high-profile film, “Truth.” The upcoming movie focuses on the scandal that ultimately led to Dan Rather’s downfall at CBS News.

During President George W. Bush’s re-election campaign in 2004, Rather and his longtime producer Mary Mapes went ahead with a report that Bush had received preferential treatment, allowing him to join the Texas National Guard during the Vietnam War rather than face the draft and a likely posting to the Southeast Asian war zone.

When that story fell apart, Mapes was fired and Rather was disgraced and soon after retired and departed from CBS after a 24-year career.

Based on Mapes’ 2005 memoir, the film will star two Oscar winners: Robert Redford as Rather and Cate Blanchett as Mapes.

Moss will play Lucy Scott, a CBS veteran who was hired by Mapes as an associate producer to “‘run point’ on the story controversy.”
