As Jessica Lange confirmed she is definitely done with “American Horror Story” after four installments, Matt Bomer was announced as a new lead on the hit FX horror anthology series, created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The news broke at the PaleyFest event in New York, where Cheyenne Jackson was also revealed as a new cast member on the upcoming “American Horror Story: Hotel,” the new fifth season. It will also star the already-announced Lady Gaga.

This will mark Bomer’s return to the “American Horror Story” franchise, as he earlier guest-starred in the most recent installment: “Freak Show.”

The actor has had a long and fruitful relationship with Murphy, having won a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice TV award for his role in Murphy’s HBO film, “The Normal Heart.” He also guest-starred on Murphy’s Fox series, “Glee” (co-created by Falchuk), as well as on the NBC comedy “The New Normal.”

“American Horror Story: Hotel” will be Bomer’s first major television role since he completed his six-season run, starring on USA’s “White Collar.” On the big screen he will reprise his role in the “Magic Mike” sequel “Magic Mike XXL.”
