A source very close to Jim Carrey told me Monday the actor is “completely inconsolable” over the suicide of his girlfriend, Cathriona White. While numerous outlets have reported the couple had broken up but considered getting back together, I’ve been told Carrey still believed he and White were in a relationship. That status was first reported by the Gossip Cop website, which quoted a source close to White as saying she and the actor were merely taking a “breather.”

White committed suicide Sept. 28, and when the Los Angeles Police discovered her body in her home, they also found an assortment of prescription drugs and a suicide note, reportedly addressed to Carrey.

Carrey not only was devastated by White’s death but also was completely unaware she used an alias used by Carrey to procure the bottles of Ambien, Propranolol and Percocet, found near her body.

My own Carrey source said Monday, “I have never seen Jim more upset about anything, and we’ve been friends for a long, long time. He was very much in love with Cathriona.”

The actor, who has not been seen in public since White’s untimely death, released a statement shortly after the news broke about her suicide. In it he said, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. … My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”
