Off Broadway’s MCC Theater has just announced its 2016-2017 season and here’s the news: “Ride the Cyclone,” the new musical that received a widely acclaimed production at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater here last season, will have its New York debut Nov. 9 – Dec. 18, with Rachel Rockwell reprising her direction of the show.

With a book, music and lyrics by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell, the musical is a strangely hypnotic and hallucinatory journey set in motion after the Saint Cassian High School Chamber Choir boards the Cyclone roller coaster at an amusement park in Canada and is sent hurtling to its death within minutes after the front axle on the ride breaks. A mechanical fortune teller invites each of the young victims to tell the story of a life interrupted – with the promise of a prize like no other.

No word yet about whether any of the Chicago cast will reprise their roles in the New York production.
