Taste of Chicago closing weekend brimming with delectable music, food

The closing weekend of Taste of Chicago is here, so make plans to catch the final Petrillo Music Shell concerts (country/folk legend Emmylou Harris, reggae icons the Wailers performing “Legend” in its entirety, and singer-songwriter Aloe Blacc, touring behind his third solo album released last year, are among the highlights) — and enjoy some of Chicago’s yummiest treats.

The music lineup at the Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park includes:

Tonight, starting at 5 p.m.: Parker Milsap; Emmylou Harris; Nickel Creek

Saturday, starting at 4 p.m.: Lucinda Williams; Jeff Tweedy

Sunday, starting at 4 p.m.: The Wailers; Aloe Blacc

In addition, on Saturday, Eli’s Cheesecake celebrates its 34th birthday with Taste of Chicago with the presentation of a six-foot-tall, 1,000-pound cheesecake (450 pounds of cream cheese, 70 pounds of sugar, 50 pounds of sour cream, 163 pounds of shortbread cookie dough, 50 pounds of cherry glaze, 25 pounds of graham crumb, 612 eggs, 2 pounds of pure Madagascar vanilla and 125 pounds of old-fashioned butter cream icing) starting at noon at Buckingham Fountain.

The cake-cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m will feature singer/songwriter and Chicago’s own Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco), and cast members from “Motown the Musical” (playing through Aug. 9 at the Oriental Theatre) singing “Happy Birthday.” Free slices of cake will be served to the public beginning at 1 p.m.
