Twisted Sister frontman. Broadway star. Reality show enthusiast. Fashion designer. Author. Composer. Playwright.

Those are but a few ways to introduce heavy metal legend Dee Snider.

The singer-songwriter-showman stopped by the Sun-Times on Monday to talk about his latest project: “Dee Snider’s Rock & Roll Christmas Tale,” a new stage musical having its world premiere in Chicago with a run at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place, 175 E. Chestnut, Nov. 4, 2014-Jan. 4, 2015.

In our interview, the singer revealed that Christmas is the greatest holiday of all in the Snider household, and since there were no rock ‘n’ roll takes on the whole idea of the Christmas season, he decided to write one.

Individual tickets for the show go on sale Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. at, at all Broadway in Chicago theater box offices or by phone at (800) 775-2000.

In the family-friendly musical comedy, Snider stars as the Narrator in a story about Daisy Cutter, a heavy metal bar band trying to make it big by selling their souls to the devil in exchange for superstardom. But every time they try to seal the deal, their head-banging anthems turn into warm-hearted carols. They are soon forced to realize their dreams of stardom are no match for the Christmas spirit.

Directed by Adam John Hunter, the cast features Bill McGough, Adam Michaels, Christina Nieves, Dan Peters, Wilam Tarris, Keely Vasquez, Taylor Yacktman and Tommy Hahn. The production will be choreographed by Robert Tatad with music supervision and arrangements by Doug Katsaros, scenic design by Rob Bissinger, costume design by Suzette (Mrs. Dee Snider) Guilot-Snider, lighting design by Heather Gilbert and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.

I’ll have more of my interview with Snider and the rest of the creative team/cast of the musical in the coming months. Stay tuned.
