A northwest Indiana man was killed and a woman was injured in a shooting early Friday in Gary, Indiana.

Officers were called at 1:35 a.m. for reports of shots fired in the 300 block of McKinley Street, according to a statement from Gary police. They arrived to find a 36-year-old man and 29-year-old woman with gunshot wounds.

AJonte J. Griffin of East Chicago, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene with a gunshot wound at 2:53 a.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

The woman, who lives in Gary, was taken to a hospital and treated for a single gunshot wound, police said. Her condition was not immediately known.
