A man who was hurt early Friday in the West Side Austin neighborhood was not actually shot, as authorities initially reported.

The 27-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital claiming that he’d been shot in the right arm about 1:30 a.m. in the 500 block of South Lockwood, according to Chicago Police.

Examination by doctors revealed the man had not actually been shot, but had fractures to his hip, leg and arm that were “consistent with some form of blunt trauma,” police said.

Police said the man “was highly inebriated and could not remember how he obtained his injuries.”

Authorities have reclassified the case as a “non-criminal injury” as Area North detectives continued to investigate.
