10 shot in Thursday attacks across Chicago

At least 10 people were shot in Chicago violence on Thursday.

About 9:15 a.m., two elderly people were involved in an apparent attempted murder-suicide in Lake View.

Yuriy M. Naroditskiy, an 84-year-old man, was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the head inside his home in the 600 block of West Diversey, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A woman, also shot in the head, was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. Police said the incident was being investigated as an attempted murder-suicide. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

The latest nonfatal shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, where a 35-year-old man was shot twice in the abdomen in the 2900 block of West Walton, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

About 6:45 p.m. in Princeton Park on the South Side, someone got out of a vehicle in the 9200 block of South Perry and shot a 29-year-old man in the back and chest, police said. His condition was stabilized at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A Marquette Park drive-by shooting left three wounded just before 5 p.m. on the Southwest Side, in the 6500 block of South Maplewood. An 18-year-old man was shot in the left knee and foot, and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, while another 18-year-old man shot in the body was taken to Christ Medical Center. A 49-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital. Their conditions were stabilized, police said.

Thursday morning in Little Village, a 19-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and a 34-year-old man in the arm while walking in the 2200 block of South Sacramento, police said. Someone drove them to Mount Sinai Hospital, and they were listed in good condition.

The day’s first shooting happened about midnight in Washington Heights on the Far South Side. Two men, 18 and 20, were riding in a car in the 1000 block of West 97th Street when another vehicle pulled alongside them and someone inside opened fire, police said. The older man was shot in the head and taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center, and the younger was in good condition at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park in good condition with a graze wound to the abdomen.

Additionally, state troopers shot and wounded two people suspected of robbing a cab driver about 8:30 p.m. on the South Side, according to Illinois State Police.

Also, a 21-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the head just before 10 p.m. on the Northwest Side, police said. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
