A 14-year-old boy was shot to death Saturday afternoon in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Just after 3 p.m., Laquan Allen was on the sidewalk in the 4900 block of West Hubbard when someone fired shots from a passing vehicle, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Allen suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:34 p.m., according to authorities. He lived in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Area North detectives were investigating.

Shermain Sargent, 41, is accused of beating Timothy Ash, 74, on Jan. 7 in the 6400 block of South King Drive. Ash died Jan. 12 of injuries suffered from the assault, the medical examiner reported.

The students were approached by people with guns Wednesday afternoon and robbed. No one was hurt. University police will ‘maintain an increased presence’ following the incidents.
