A 16-year-old boy showed up at a hospital with a gunshot wound Wednesday night in northwest suburban Elgin.

About 10:35 p.m., the teen was dropped off by a family member at Sherman Hospital in Elgin with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to Elgin police.

He told officers he had been shot while on the east side of Elgin, a statement police said. The circumstances and location of the shooting remain under investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Elgin Police Major Investigation Unit at (847) 289-2601. Anonymous tips can be provided at (847) 695-4195 or by texting 847411 and including “ELGINPD” in the beginning of the message.
