A 16-year-old boy was shot Wednesday afternoon in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side.

He was standing on the sidewalk in the 100 block of East 57th Street at 12:38 p.m. when a male approached and fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

The teenager was shot in the leg and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

The man suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead at University of Chicago Medical Center, police said.
