An 18-year-old Kentucky man has been charged with sexually assaulting an 8-year-old boy in Cook County.

Edward Vaughan was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and child pornography, according to a statement from the Cook County sheriff’s office.

On Aug. 19, an undercover officer in Washington D.C. talked with Vaughan on an online messaging application and learned that he sexually assaulted the 8-year-old in Cook County, the sheriff’s office said. Vaughan also shared pictures of the assault with the officer.

The assaults took place in the Palatine and Hoffman Estates area, the sheriff’s office said. Vaughan, who was living in Kentucky when he talked to the undercover officer, previously lived in Palatine.

Vaughan was arrested in Kentucky Oct. 7 and returned to Cook County on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said. Bond was set at $2.5 million Thursday at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.

Vaughan is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 4.
