Eight people — including a 16-year-old boy — were killed and at least 39 other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago over Mother’s Day weekend.

The boy died in the latest homicide Sunday afternoon in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Nathan Hicks, 16, was found in the street about 3:20 p.m. in the 3400 block of West Arthington with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 4700 block of West Gladys.

A couple hours earlier, another West Side shooting left one man dead and a woman injured in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Deshawn Thompson, 20, and a 19-year-old woman were sitting on a porch just before 1 p.m. in the 200 block of South Karlov when someone walked up and opened fire, authorities aid.

Thompson was shot multiple times and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the same block as the shooting.

The woman suffered a graze wound to the back and was also taken to Mount Sinai, where she was listed in good condition Sunday, police said.

A man was shot to death Sunday morning in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side.

Kourtney Young, 21, suffered multiple gunshot wounds about 8:45 a.m. in the 7600 block of South Prairie and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:35 a.m., authorities said.

Young lived in the 7300 block of South King Drive, authorities said. Police did not immediately have details on the circumstances of the shooting.

Earlier Sunday, a 35-year-old man was shot to death while riding in a car on Lake Shore Drive on the North Side.

Officers responded at 5:08 a.m. to a crash in the northbound lanes near Foster and found Keon Lewis in the back seat with a gunshot wound to the lower back. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and later died, authorities said.

Lewis, whose home address was unknown, had been riding in the car with two other people in the 4400 block of North Lake Shore Drive when another vehicle pulled alongside them and someone inside it opened fire, authorities said. He was the only person shot.

Late Saturday, a 26-year-old man was found fatally shot in Austin on the West Side.

Officers responding to a call of a person shot at 10:50 p.m. in the 400 block of South Cicero found the man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, police said. He was taken to Loretto Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner’s office has not released his name, pending notification of his family.

Another Saturday night shooting left a 58-year-old man dead while sitting at the kitchen table of his Archer Heights neighborhood home on the Southwest Side.

Gunshots tore through the front door of Andres Rivera’s home in the 5200 block of South Kolin and struck him in the head, authorities said. He died at the scene.

A police source said the shooting possibly was gang-related, but it was not clear if Rivera was the intended target.

Early Saturday, a 30-year-old man was gunned down inside a car in Englewood on the South Side.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 1:40 a.m. in the 7400 block of South Union found him inside the vehicle with a chest wound, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died. Authorities have not released his name.

The weekend’s first fatal shooting happened Friday night in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, where a man was killed and two others were wounded on the South Side.

They were at a party outside in the 7600 block of South Maryland about 8:10 p.m. when someone drove past and opened fire, police said.

Terrell Berkhart, 29, was shot in the abdomen and taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 9200 block of South Dobson.

Another man, 26, was shot in the hand and taken to the same hospital. The third man, 40, was shot in the back and taken to Jackson Park Hospital. Their conditions stabilized, police said.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened Sunday afternoon in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the right leg at 12:51 p.m. in the 5000 block of West Erie and taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. Police said he wasn’t cooperating with the investigation.

At least 37 more people were wounded in other shootings across Chicago between Friday night and Sunday afternoon.

Additionally, a 51-year-old man was stabbed to death about 12:30 a.m. Monday in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood. Area Central detectives have opened a homicide investigation.
