A woman who was not an intended target was one of two people killed in shootings that left eight others wounded Monday on the city’s South and West sides.

Adrianna Mayes, 21, was killed and a man was wounded in a Roseland neighborhood shooting about 2 p.m. on the Far South Side.

They were struck when two groups of males exchanged gunfire at 106th and State, according to Chicago Police.

Mayes was shot in her left side and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 2:56 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Mayes, who was not believed to be a target of the shooting, lived nearby in the 10600 block of South State.

A 22-year-old man was also shot, police said. He took himself to Roseland Community Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left hand, where he was listed in good condition.

Earlier Monday, two men were shot, one fatally, in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

A 33-year-old man was shot in the head and a 26-year-old suffered three shots to the neck, chest and jaw at 3:34 a.m. in the 100 block of North Central Avenue, police said.

The older man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. His name has not yet been released.

The younger man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Most recently, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were wounded in a shooting in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. They were standing outside at 10:40 p.m. in the 4200 block of South Sacramento when a black SUV drove up and someone inside fired shots at them, police said. The man was shot in the leg and taken to Saint Anthony Hospital, while the teen was shot in the side and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. Both of their conditions were stabilized. A police source said both victims are documented gang members.

Shortly before 8 p.m., two men were shot in the 1800 block of South Kildare in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The 21-year-old man was shot in the arm, while the 22-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said. They both later walked into Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were listed in good condition.

About 6:10 p.m., a 57-year-old man was shot in the foot in the 1500 block of North Maplewood in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, police said. He was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.

The day’s first shooting happened in another Austin neighborhood attack. At 2:33 a.m., a 38-year-old man was walking in the 5200 block of West Augusta when someone walked up and announced a robbery, police said. The victim was shot in the foot after he pushed the suspect and ran away. He was taken to West Suburban Medical Center where his condition was stabilized.

Monday’s shootings followed a weekend in which five people were killed and at least 39 more were wounded in shootings across Chicago.
