Two people were injured when an SUV crashed into a semi Thursday morning in north suburban Skokie.

The SUV crashed head-on into the side of the semi at Golf Road and Keeler Avenue in Skokie, Skokie Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Hoeflich told reporters at the scene. The crash caused the semi to tip onto its side.

The driver and passenger from the SUV were taken to Evanston Hospital with “significant injuries,” Hoeflich said. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Golf Road remained closed as police continued to investigate before starting to right the truck, Hoeflich said. Diesel fuel had started to leak from the semi, but the leak has since been contained.
