Two people were killed and six others were wounded in shootings Wednesday across Chicago.

The most recent homicide happened Wednesday afternoon in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, according to Chicago Police.

About 1:30 p.m., a 32-year-old man was driving in the 2000 block of West 68th Place when someone on foot shot at his vehicle, police said.

The man was shot multiple times and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the death.

Wednesday’s first shooting left a 23-year-old woman dead in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Africa S. Bass was walking in the 8700 block of South Burley about 12:05 a.m. when someone in a black SUV fired shots, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

Bass, who lived in the same block as the shooting, was shot in the back and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:51 a.m., authorities said.

Police initially spoke to a possible person of interest, but no one was in custody Wednesday morning as Area South detectives investigate.

The most recent nonfatal attack happened about 11:30 p.m. in the Noble Square neighborhood.

A 20-year-old man was walking in the 1300 block of West Crystal when someone in a gray car shot him in the left leg, police said. His condition was stabilized at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

A 17-year-old boy was shot about 45 minutes earlier in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. About 10:45 p.m., he was walking in the 1500 block of South Harding when someone riding in a white SUV shot him in the right arm, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Earlier in the afternoon, a man was critically wounded in a shooting in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. The 19-year-old was shot in the head at 2:26 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Van Buren, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

A man was shot in the shoulder about an hour earlier in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side. The 22-year-old was shot in the left shoulder in the 3800 block of West Armitage at 1:36 p.m. and taken in good condition to Illinois Masonic Medical Center according to police said. The circumstances of the shooting were unknown. A police source said the victim is a documented gang member.

Two people were wounded in separate shootings Wednesday morning nearly 10 hours apart in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood.

A 25-year-old man was in the 300 block of West 106th Place about 11:25 a.m. when he heard shots and realized he’d been shot in the left ankle, police said. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.

A 20-year-old woman told investigators she was sitting in a parked vehicle at 2:07 a.m. in the 100 block of West 112th Street when she heard gunfire and felt pain, police said. She suffered a gunshot wound to the right buttocks and later showed up at Roseland Community Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.
