A 34-year-old man was shot late Friday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

He was in the passenger side of a vehicle at 11:34 p.m. in the 100 block of North Kilbourn when two unknown males approached and opened fire on the vehicle, according to Chicago Police.

The man was struck in the leg and taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

Shermain Sargent, 41, is accused of beating Timothy Ash, 74, on Jan. 7 in the 6400 block of South King Drive. Ash died Jan. 12 of injuries suffered from the assault, the medical examiner reported.
