A 37-year-old woman was was killed in a crash Thursday afternoon in southwest suburban Frankfort.

Rebecca J. Schatz was driving a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander north on U.S. 45 (La Grange Road) at Steger Road at 2:10 p.m. when her SUV crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, according to Illinois State Police.

Schatz, of Kankakee, was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where she died at 2:56 p.m., according to police and the Will County coroner’s office.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 20-year-old Joliet resident, was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, police said.

There were no passengers in either vehicle, police said.

The ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
