A 64-year-old woman was killed in a crash Sunday morning in south suburban Lansing.

A silver 2014 Hyundai Sonata and a gray 2006 Chevrolet HHR were involved in the crash at 178th Street and Wentworth Avenue at 11:53 a.m., according to Lansing police.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 64-year-old Penny Thomas of Lansing, was taken to Munster Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:48 p.m., according to police and the Lake County (Ind.) coroner’s office.

The driver and a juvenile passenger in the Hyundai were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Illinois State Police are assisting Lansing police with the investigation.
