A 67-year-old man was shot early Wednesday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

About 12:30 a.m., the man was sleeping in the cab of his truck, parked in the 4400 block of West Ferdinand, when he spotted people trying to steal the vehicle’s battery, according to Chicago Police.

When he exited the truck and confronted the would-be thieves he was shot in the abdomen, police said.

The man was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting early Tuesday as Area North detectives investigate.
