Petros Marinakos, 36, of Lincolnwood bought a Quick Pick ticket for the April 8 Lucky Day Lotto drawing at the Mobil station at 6777 N. Lincoln Ave. in Lincolnwood, according to the Illinois Lottery.

He gave the ticket to his father and asked him to check it after the drawing, a statement from the Lottery said.

“I had to go to work so I jokingly asked my dad to take care of my ‘winning’ ticket,” Marinakos said.

His father went back to the station and scanned the ticket, and found it matched all five numbers—05-15-28-38-39—so he rushed home to tell his wife and call his son.

Marinakos said he’d like to buy his parents a new car, but he’ll do whatever they prefer.

The station will receive a $3,000 bonus, one percent of the prize, for selling the winning ticket.
