The emergence of rookie Jordan Mills as an every-day starter at right tackle was one of the best developments for the Bears’ new offense under coach Marc Trestman and offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer.

Mills, a fifth-round pick out of Louisiana Tech, started every game this season and didn’t have a significant setback until the final week of the season against the Green Bay Packers. He injured his left foot during the first offensive series and didn’t return. He later left Soldier Field on crutches and in a walking boot.

Sources said Mills underwent surgery for a fractured fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot on Friday.

On Thursday, general manager Phil Emery said he was unsure how Mills’ injury would impact his offseason training after a successful rookie season. But even though his surgically-repaired fracture is definitely a concern, Mills is not expected to miss an extended amount of time.
