Chalk up another one for Chicago.
On Wednesday, only a day before her birthday, news broke that former Second City mainstage and iO Theater performer Amber Ruffin has landed a writing gig on NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” which debuts February 24.
Among the other Chicago-trained folks she joins on Meyers’ crew are Peter Grosz, John Lutz, Conner O’Malley and Alex Baze. Meyers himself was born in Evanston, went to school at Northwestern and honed his comedy chops in town for a while. He was also part of the Amsterdam-based comedy troop Boom Chicago, where Ruffin did a stint as well.
As of late afternoon Wednesday, Ruffin’s Facebook page was filling up with congratulatory posts — including one from Second City’s executive vice president Kelly Leonard.
“What do you give the girl who has everything???” another Friend wrote. “Happy birthday and congratulations!! No one deserves it more!”
