Sue's Morning Stretch: Is Lena Dunham naked a lot?

I ask the question because I don’t have HBO and so don’t watch “The Girls” But a reporter for The Wrap who does watch it asked the show’s creator and star Lena Dunham  during a press conference what the point is of her being naked so often, according to “Good Morning America.” She and the show’s producers, Judd Apatow and others, took exception to the question.

Dunham told the reporter, Tim Malloy, that’s how life is and added, “If you are not into me, that’s your problem.” Eventually Dunham walked off stage, but Malloy insists that was not the issue, he just wanted to know what the point was and in a rebuttal Malloy made some interesting points about the question and why it wasn’t sexist. But, I still have to wonder if he or anyone else would ask that question if the star of the show was one of the Hollywood skinny actresses.

Only scenes I have seen of Dunham on the show nude were of her in bed (well gee, doesn’t that happen all the time?) and then her sitting on the toilet eating a cake. While I see that last pose and think, really, cake in the bathroom, but that’s just me. Maybe that made sense in the context of that episode. I don’t know. Malloy and Dunham now make me want to check out the show.

Dunham doesn’t mind being provocative. Just last week when GMA’s George Stephanopoulos asked the silly question, “What’s the girliest thing about you?” (Does anyone ever ask a male, what’s the manliest thing about you? Of course not.) Dunham let him know how stupid that was with the reply, “My vagina.”

In the sea of actresses who starve themselves to look like 12-year-old boys (well, 12-year-old boys with surgically enhanced knockers), Dunham’s refreshing. She’s fine with her body the way it is and I like how she wears a strapless gown and gives the red carpet audiences full view of her tats. You know the phrase, “Comfortable in your own skin”? That’s Dunham. Young girls everywhere need to see someone like that, in clothes or without them.
