WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — One person reportedly is in custody and another, dead, after a shooting late this morning on the West Lafayette campus of Purdue University.

And a Twitter post from the official Twitter account of Purdue University says classes at the school now have been cancelled through at least Wednesday.

Reports of shots fired came in around noon Eastern time Tuesday at the Electrical Engineering Building on the school’s campus, and Purdue University Provost Tim Sands confirmed one person was killed.

Officials said police have a man in custody, but that suspect has not yet been named. They did not comment on his connections to the victim or the university, but said investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack.

Just before 1:40 p.m. Eastern, Purdue tweeted all but the Electrical Engineering Building could return to normal operations. Students previously had been asked to shelter in place.

Television footage showed several law enforcement vehicles around the building on the campus about 60 miles northwest of Indianapolis.
