Screen shot 2013-10-21 at 2.40.39 PMBlessed by talk show veteran Conan O’Brien and hired by TBS to put his own spin on late-night television, comic Pete Holmes is about to make his big small-screen debut (October 28 at 11 p.m.) as the host of a regular (four nights a week) series: “The Pete Holmes Show.” If it performs well ratings-wise (or at least shows promise of doing so) beyond the initial seven weeks TBS has allotted, the network will almost certainly re-up. First week guests include Holmes’ friends and fellow comedians Chelsea Peretti and Kumail Nanjiani.

Stay tuned to the Sun-Times for more on Holmes, his newest venture and his Chicago comedy roots. In the meantime, here’s a sampling of his work to prime the pump.
