Sevyn Streeter, nee Amber Denise Streeter, is working the red carpet for tonight’s no-lip-synching allowed taping of the “Soul Train Awards” (the show is taping tonight in Las Vegas but will actually air on December 1.) And after the whirlwind weekend, she’ll be performing Friday at The Shrine with fellow BET Music Matters Tour songstress and reality show diva K. Michelle for the Rebellious Soul Tour.
But for tonight, Streeter is focusing on hosting the red carpet alongside Janelle Monae and Wendy Williams.
“I’ve never hosted a carpet before, so I’m excited,” says Streeter, whose debut EP “Call Me Crazy, But…” drops Dec. 3. “I performed at Black Girls Rock and there were so many great artists and women that I didn’t even get to see them until I watched the show. I was bummed about that. But with hosting the red carpet, I feel like i finally get to see everybody.”
Streeter will be be rocking a LaQuan Smith dress and shoes just shy of being sky high. And then? She returns to her tour. Fans can expect a rousing set, she says.
“A lot of it is just singing and dancing and a lot of conversation,” says the songwriter, whose credits include cuts for Chris Brown (“Wet the Bed,” “Fine China”), Tamar Braxton (“All the Way Home”) and Ariana Grande (“The Way” featuring Mac Miller). “I like to talk to the audience. I’m also performing my songs off the EP for the first time. I feel like the 10 year old girl in me that sung on Showtime at the Apollo is inside cheering, like ‘Yay, we get to do it for real.’ People are receptive and there’s no greater feeling than that.” – Adrienne Samuels Gibbs
