Chicago winter is about to get “100 Days of Summer,” Bravo’s new reality show that follows a half dozen of the city’s better looking denizens as they behave, well, like attractive, privileged people typically behave on reality shows. (Read: Hook ups, break ups, drama, perfect hair and swanky parties — at least that’s what it looks like from the teaser below.)
Premiering at 9 p.m. Jan. 7, the series is said to chronicle “a group of young, successful and driven Chicagoans as they navigate the ups and downs of their personal, professional, and social lives in the Windy City over one intense summer.”
Reads the Bravo press release: “In desperate need of relief from Chicago’s long-lasting winters, these go-getters only have a scant 100 days to accomplish the lofty personal and professional goals they set for themselves. Some will succeed and some will fail, but they all will be changed forever.”
Yes, it sounds derivative and fake in that reality-show-trumped-up-stakes kind of way. I can almost guarantee I wouldn’t tune in if the 100 days took place in Philly. But since it’s Chicago, I’ll give it a try. It might just be so bad, it’s good. And come Jan. 7, I’ll be jonesing for some scenes of Chicago in the summer. (You don’t have to wait until then to get a better sense of the show; A half-hour preview special will air at 9:30 p.m. Dec. 5 on Bravo.)
So who are these six hot-to-trot movers and shakers? One of them, Ray Austin, is a former Chicago Bear. Here’s all of their bio info, courtesy of Bravo:
Vincent is the man to know in Chicago. He is fashionable, well-spoken and successful. As partner of an event promotion and marketing company, he knows all of the hot spots in the city as well as the swarms of attractive women that frequent them. Vincent is on a mission to expand his company and take his career to the next level but success in his business keeps him surrounded by a bevy of beautiful women – a fact which doesn’t sit well with his new girlfriend. With her recent relocation to Chicago to be with him and insistence that he make a serious commitment to their future, Vincent has a delicate balancing act ahead of him.
Pascale is a modern day siren luring in suitors and would-be friends with ease. She recently moved back to her hometown of Chicago after a brief stint in L.A. to launch a new jewelry line with her artist mother, but acclimating back into her old Chicago social circle may be harder then she thinks. Savvy, self-assured and always walking to the beat of her own drum, Pascale isn’t afraid to speak her mind and always goes after what she wants in both business and relationships. Living by the motto “I may be a lot of things, boring isn’t one of them,” her matter of fact attitude does not always sit well with everyone, sometimes leaving a trail of tears and heartache in her wake.
Jay is a partner in a top-notch real estate development business that specializes in rehabilitating and refurbishing properties throughout Chicago. A self-described “lifestyle architect and real estate developer in search of the world’s best ways to live,” his entrepreneurial spirit keeps him constantly on the lookout for new projects to sink his teeth into and he strongly believes that perfection is the standard and failure is not an option. His latest venture – FLATS Chicago – is dedicated to creating living environments that enhance the community, nourish artists, and provide options for living large in small spaces. While he is actively looking for love, he has a very serious list of must haves in a partner that may intimidate some. Not one to wait around for Mr. Right, Jay’s already on the hunt for his dream home, and is more than ready, with or without a partner, to start a family.
Always on the go, Tara is an ideal balance of looks, athleticism, and intelligence. A huge animal lover, she works hard during the day taking care of the pets of Chicago’s elite at a booming downtown veterinary practice. With all of her single friends starting to pair off and head towards marriage, Tara is definitely feeling the pressure to find a husband. Tired of always being a bridesmaid, never the bride, she is hopeful that her current boyfriend will be ready to take the next step and commit to moving in together by the end of the summer.
A onetime professional football player for the Chicago Bears, Ray has transitioned into a career as a businessman, model, and actor. When he isn’t in front of the camera, he works as a sports talent scout. Ray has recently moved in with his girlfriend, professional figure skater Hamidah, and is now weighing his next steps both personally and professionally. He uses his charisma while out on Chicago’s hot social scene to build his brand and keep himself at the center of attention, which doesn’t always sit well with Hamidah. Determined to achieve his goals, Ray lives by the motto “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.”
Don’t let Phillips’ blonde hair fool you. This eccentric former pageant queen is an intelligent and savvy businesswoman as well as a member of Mensa. Her passion and creativity have led her to design and launch her own clothing line that specializes in matching fashions for dogs and their humans. She is fairly new to Chicago but has already fallen in love with the city and the people. As a driven woman who considers her life complete without being in a relationship, it remains to be seen if the men of Chicago will be able to convince her otherwise.
